The third annual AL DÍA 40 Under Forty event serves to highlight and showcase some of the most diverse and impactful young professionals across the Philadelphia region. 

At this year's event, taking place Friday, Aug. 26, Marisabel Alonso will be one of the 40 honorees. 

Biography

Marisabel Alonso is an Associate Attorney based at Green and Spiegel US’s Philadelphia office. She specializes in Family-Based Immigration petitions and Removal Defense cases before Immigration Court.

Prior to joining Green and Spiegel US, Alonso worked as a Staff Attorney at Catholic Social Services Immigration Legal Services in Philadelphia. She has worked effectively with clients on their adjustment of status cases and consular processing before the Department of State. She also has successful experience defending clients’ interests in removal defense cases before the Immigration Court. Further, Marisabel has a wide range of experience working on humanitarian-based immigration petitions including, but not limited to, U-Visas, T-visas, Temporary Protected Status, and VAWA cases.

As part of the lead-up to the AL DÍA 40 Under Forty event, AL DÍA asked each of the honorees a set of identical questions and collected their responses. 

Here are Marisabel Alonso's responses: 

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced in your professional career? 

The biggest challenge I’ve faced in my professional career is trusting my accomplishments and developing confidence in my work as I am starting out.

What are steps that can be taken to improve diversity, equity and inclusion in your industry? Why is it important to do so?

Intentional efforts to promote cultural sensitivity in the workplace helps promote a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the legal industry. Specifically, recruitment of individuals from diverse backgrounds into management positions would help improve diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.

What does being a leader mean to you? 

Being a leader means inspiring, supporting, and encouraging whatever team you are working with. A leader sets up a group for success by listening to their needs and addressing them along with maintaining the goals and overall healthiness of the group. Leaders set up teammates for success and rejoices when those they are leading succeed.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

In five years, I hope to be in a management position at an immigration legal institution. I hope that I can work with a team of individuals who value creating a healthy work environment, as that will help bring the best work product for clients who come to us for immigration assistance and guidance.
