Porto Rico is the title of the film that René Perez, better known as Residente, is in the process of writing alongside screenwriter Alexander Dinelaris, Oscar winner for the screenplay of Birdman.
The film will tell the story of Puerto Rican revolutionary José Maldonado Román, better known as 'Águila Blanca' (White Eagle), who fought with the Cuban Liberation Army, creating a narrative in Puerto Rico, according to EFE.
The rapper, songwriter and producer announced he's been writing for the film since June 2022, and working closely with Dinelaris after finishing the details of the contract for the creation of the work.
"In June of last year I started writing my first film with Alex, who in addition to having won an Oscar, wrote Birdman, one of my favorite screenplays. I also had the pleasure of writing with the Cabezudos brothers from Spain, whom I admire very much," said René in a post on social media.
Along with a video with some scenes of the creative process, Residente also said that he has been locked up writing "for a long time." For his followers and fans who have been waiting for him to release new music, he will be releasing everything he has been working on over the last few years.
"I'm doing a lot of things and even if I don't document them on social media they are happening," he said
To date, René has been behind other important productions such as his own documentary Residente and several music videos for his own songs like "René," "Ojos color sol," "Hoy," "Bellacoso," "Soy anormal," and "Pecador."
Porto Rico will be the first film Residente will make with his company 1868 Studios in conjunction with Sony Music Entertainment's Premium Content Division.
