Raymond & Ray tells the story of two stepbrothers raised in the shadow of a terrible father.  Somehow, they still each have a sense of humor, and his funeral is a chance for them to reinvent themselves. In this story, there is room for anger, pain, madness, love... and even digging graves, according to the synopsis of the film.

The film Raymond & Ray was shot in Virginia and stars American actor, writer and director Ethan Hawke, and British actor Ewan McGregor, known for his work in Trainspotting, Star Wars and many more.

The cast of this film is joined by the renowned Spanish actress Maribel Verdú, winner of two Goya Awards from the Spanish Film Academy. This is the third project in English that the Spanish Goya winner has embarked on after The Flash and Now and Then.

Hawke, McGregor and Verdú are also joined by Sophie Okonedo, Tom Bower, and actor and director Vondie Curtis Hall.

Raymond & Ray is written and directed by Colombian film and television director Rodrigo García Barcha, eldest son of famous writer and Nobel Prize for Literature winner Gabriel García Márquez and Mercedes Barcha.

With the film, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, the director seeks to delve into complicated family relationships or those that show dependency between people.

García Barcha admitted in an interview with Deadline that his father had something to do with the story that became a feature film.

“One good day years later, I thought about two half-brothers and from the dark recesses of my mind came the idea that they had the same name, which sort of set the tone for the kind of father that he was,” García Barcha said.

The production has been charged to renowned Mexican filmmaker, screenwriter, photographer and Oscar winner Alfonso Cuarón. He is joined by Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn. The executive producers are Shea Kammer and Gabriela Rodríguez.

The film Raymond & Ray is set to premiere on Apple TV+ on Oct. 21.
