The film is available from Friday through the platform. It tells the story of Pinocchio in "an enchanted adventure that transcends worlds and reveals the power of love".

This project was a dream the director had for several years, Netflix revealed in a statement.

Del Toro told how it all started when he was teaching Stop Motion classes and one of his students was better than him, he says.

"It was around that time when I thought about doing Pinocchio in stop motion, but it would be more like Frankenstein, about a character thrown into the world to find out who he is, what he is doing in this world, and why he exists," said the Mexican.

Del Toro has taken care of every detail in the production of the film, from its art direction to its staging, which is why the possibility of it being considered for the Oscars in the Best Animated Film category has been discussed, according to Infobae.

This version of "Pinocchio" is co-directed by Guillermo del Toro and Mark Gustafson.

Del Toro is also part of the film's production team, screenplay and musical composition.
