Diego Luna is one of the Star Wars Latinos, thanks to his casting in the movie Rogue One. Almost six years after that success, the Mexican actor will return in his own series, where fans will see the beginnings of a rebellion that brought hope back to the Galaxy.

At the Star Wars Celebration 2022, held at the Anaheim Convention Center in California, the new projects in the franchise were announced, along with release dates.

Andor will be the new series starring Luna as the main star, and will take place five years before the events of Rogue One.

"The series presents the story of the growing rebellion against the Empire and how people and planets became involved. In an era full of danger, deceit and intrigue, Cassian will embark on the path destined to make him a rebel hero," Disney said, adding that this series will explore a new Star Wars perspective with Andor's ability to discover the difference he can make in the Galaxy.

The trailer for the series opens with a group of civilians terrified by the Empire's presence on their planet. They can do nothing to defend themselves from the abuses they face, as the Clone Wars left the Empire armed and the Jedi no longer exist.

In an interview for Comicbook, Diego Luna explained that Andor will not only be a prequel to Rogue One, but will also allow fans to learn more about the different motivations of the main characters.

"The only thing I can say is that you're going to see where it was five years before Rogue One, and you're not going to believe that movie could have been possible. That's the idea, to see a transformation and an awakening. I can't tell you how that will be portrayed, you'll have to wait until the premiere. But that's what it's about, and it's about how much we are capable of changing and transforming ourselves," said the actor.

The series will have two seasons of 12 episodes each and can be found on the Disney+ starting Sept. 21, 2022.
