Creed III was released over the weekend and tells the story of Adonis Johnson Creed's return to the boxing ring even as his past haunts him.

Selenis Leyva, the actress who plays Laura, the mother and manager of new heavyweight champion Felix Chavez — a character inspired by Mexican boxer Julio Cesar Chavez — told EFE that the production wants to show "women with power".

"The writers did a phenomenal job and not only portrayed the world of boxing, but also the personal world of Adonis and I am fascinated by the idea of teaching that in this area there can be powerful men and powerful women," Leyva said.

"Laura is not only a Latina mother, she is a woman who is succeeding in the boxing world and that is not something you see every day in this industry that is normally very masculine," said the actress.

Leyva said that with this film she wants "Latino women and little girls to see these women with power and say, 'look, we can do it too, look how they fight and are part of history.'"

Creed III also pays tribute to the Latino community in the boxing world "because we are a big part of the success of the sport," Leyva told EFE.

The film also includes a short cameo by the current world boxing champion Saúl 'Canelo' Álvarez and his wife, Fernanda Gómez.

Creed III is out in theaters in the United States and Latin America. It will later be available on the Amazon Prime Video.
