August 10th, 2023In this week’s issue, Philly Mag runs a story about how the local baseball team expects to attract more Latino supporters to its fan base thanks to its increasing number of Latino players.
Some Latino baseball stars playing at the Phillies are: Vince Velasquez, Joely Rodriguez, Odubel Herrera, Hector Neris, César Hernández and Maikel Franco.
The team has now 12 Latino, almost half of the team. “A renewed commitment to developing Latino players has bumped up the Phillies’ yield from fertile fields that produced nearly a quarter of the players on 2016 MLB rosters”, as reported in Philly Mag
The next challenge for the Phillies is to transform "that growing Latino on-field presence to increased fan participation within the Philadelphia-area Latino community."
The team new marketig strategy to attract Latinos included a new Spanish language Twitter (@LosPhillies) and Facebook (Phillies de Filadelfia) accounts, with a Spanish website expected in 2018.
