The City of Philadelphia has historically been known for its diversity.

While the term diversity has been thrown around a lot, how much of it is actually being utilized?

Since 2001, AL DIA has hosted an annual career fair, called the AL DIA Philadelphia Diversity Career Fair. Putting our passion towards building, and thriving our multicultural communities, AL DIA is welcoming partnerships with local companies to connect with the best and brightest diverse talent.

However, for the 18th annual installment, AL DIA is changing the name to a ‘diversity career fair’ to a Diverse City Career Fair.

“In actuality, the city of Philadelphia is diverse, but the employment of those diverse residents of the city has yet to happen at the scale that it needs to happen,” Hernan Guaracao, AL DIA CEO, Editor and Publisher, said about the name revamp.

According to the 2010 census, the racial composition of Philadelphia was:

  • White: 41.0 percent (36.9 percent non-Hispanic)
  • Black or African American: 43.4 percent (42.2 percent non-Hispanic)
  • Native American: 0.5 percent
  • Asian: 6.3 percent
  • Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander: 0.0 percent
  • Other race: 5.9 percent
  • Two or more races: 2.8 percent
  • Hispanic or Latino of any race: 12.3 percent

The percentage of the workforce in the city, however, do not well reflect the demographics of the city.

According to 2018 Philadelphia Workforce Diversity Profile Report, the total executive exempt workforce of Philadelphia was:

  • White: 47.3 percent
  • Black or African American: 37.5 percent
  • American Indian or Alaska Native: 2.4 percent
  • Asian: 5.8 percent
  • Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander: 0.1 percent
  • Two or more races: 2.4 percent
  • Hispanic or Latino: 6.9 percent

With so many different sectors to work in, AL DIA encourages as many people who is able to attend the career fair to attend.

“My vision for the city is that it becomes the global city that it used to be in 1776, when it was people of all walks of life who converged or gravitated to a center called Philadelphia,” said Guaracao.

The career fair will take place on April 25, 2019 at the PA Convention Center from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Admission is free, but registration is required.  Attendees are encouraged to upload resumes upon registration, and also bring 20-30 copies of their resume. Registrants will have the chance to interact with recruiters, learning more about the companies and their open positions, as well as tell the recruiter about themselves and their professional experience.
